Being noted as a 40-year-old going on 25, Velvet’s energetic attitude and creative mind has made her into a role model for women of all sizes. Having fully accepted herself as big and beautiful, Velvet has become a major advocate for the plus size community.

One question that Velvet is asked repeatedly by the press and paparazzi deals with if she considers herself healthy. Her brilliant response includes explaining that she has never done drugs, does not drink alcohol, and nor does she smoke, even though many skinny and supposedly healthy models participate in each of these activities. Yet just because of her weight SHE is supposed to be the unhealthy person?!? Velvet’s perspective on the matter certainly highlights just how skinny-obsessed the world has become when there are so many other health concerns that should be receiving equal, if not more, attention.

Velvet also uses her skills as a photographer to help herself and others improve self-esteem issues. She has suggested on several occasions that developing a positive body image takes work, and some of that work could include photographs. Her belief is that the more you can look at every part of your body and accept yourself as unique and beautiful, then overtime you will start to believe in yourself and improve your attitude.
